Men's Volleyball Completes Season Sweep of Baruch

Violets Knock Off Bearcats for the Third Time in 2011

The New York University men's volleyball team posted its third win of the season over Baruch College, completing the season sweep with a 3-1 victory on Monday, March 7, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

The Violets (10-6), currently ranked #5 in the AVCA Division III Men's Top 15 Coaches Poll, were out-killed by the seventh-ranked Bearcats (24-11) 54-53, but held a .336 to .254 advantage in hitting percentage in the 25-21, 25-16, 21-25, 25-23 victory.

Leading the offense for the Violets was Nick Capriccio, who tallied an errorless 15 kills and hit a match-high .750 while also putting back three blocks, including a solo.

Also in the middle, captain Fran Hodgson was in double digits on offense, putting down 10 kills while hitting .444.  At the net on defense, the senior put back a match-high seven blocks, including three solos.

On the outside, Taylor Fauntleroy recorded his 10th consecutive double-digit kill match, tallying 12 while adding three blocks and two digs.

On defense, Pat Dodd and Dylan Ramey both put up eight digs.  Dodd also contributed seven kills and two blocks.

For the Bearcats, Pablo Oliveira recorded 19 kills and eight digs to lead the team.

The Violets return to action on Wednesday night when they continue their home stand by hosting Hunter College at Coles.  First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
