After dropping a tightly fought first set, the New York University men's volleyball team rallied to defeat #13 Baruch College for the second time in less than a week on Thursday, Ferbruary 3, on the campus of Baruch in Manhattan.
The Violets (5-2), currently ranked #4 in the AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Top 15 Poll, knocked off the Bearcats (3-9) 3-1 (26-28, 25-20, 25-17, 25-17) to win their fourth consective match in the 2011 season.
Posting his sixth double-digit kill performance in seven appearnces thus far this season, Taylor Fauntleroy led the Violets on offense. The sophomore outside hitter posted a career-high 20 kills while also hitting a career-best .429. He added three digs and three assisted blocks.
Also in double digits for NYU was captain Fran Hodgson, who tallied 15 kills while hitting a match-high .833. On the net on defense, the senior put back a team-high five blocks, including a solo.
Fellow middle blocker Nick Cappricio was the final Violet in double-digits on offense, putting down 13 kills and hitting .500 for the match.
On defense, Pat Dodd recorded a match-high eight digs while also notching seven kills on attack.
For the Bearcats, Pablo Oliveira tallied 18 kills and eight digs, while Jesus Echevarria also put up eight digs.
The Violets return to action this Saturday, Feb. 5,when they travel to Fairfield, CT, to take on EIVA Hay Division rival Sacred Heart University. First serve is set for 3:00 pm.
