MIT Final Results

New York University's men's swimming and diving team went into the Massachusetts Institue of Technology's Invitational with high expectations, and they did not come out disappointed. The meet took place on December 2-3 at MIT's Zesiger Center Pool in Cambridge, MA.

The Violets' hard work is showing, as they came in second place with 688.5 points, behind MIT (1,397.5) and in front of Keene State University (588).

NYU had a lot of strong performances throughout the meet. In the 400-yard IM, four of the six Violets who competed  finished in the top 10: Bryson Naylor (4), Matt Kendall (7), Michael Dozal (8), and Danny Isaacson (9). James Bedell (third), Jerry Crowley (fourth), and Aaron Weintraub (seventh) also finished in the top 10 of the 43-person 100-yard butterfly. Naylor (fifth), Dozal (sixth), and Kendall (ninth) saw more success with top-10 finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The team also did well in the relay races. In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the NYU quartet of Ed Carroll, Ed Luo, Naylor, and Cole Talbott finished fourth out of 12 teams with a time of 7:06.75. In the 200-yard medley relay, Charlie Wu, Bedell, Weintraub, and Crowley finished fifth out of 14 teams with a time of 1:36.83.

"Everyone swam season bests," said head coach Bob Sorensen, "and several swimmers, such as Crowley and Bedell, almost achieved NCAA qualifying times in their events. Our times and second-place finish at the meet indicate that we're on track to have our best season in the last several years."

Diving had an equally impressive meet. Austen Blease continued his successful streak with a second-place finish on the one-meter dive. He finished with an NCAA qualifying score of 284.10 points.

"It was a very good contest," said diving coach Scott Donie. "It came down to the last dive. I'm really happy with all of the divers today."

The team will be given some down time, as they do not compete again until their winter training trip which will take place from January 3-10 in West Palm Beach, FL..
