Men's Fencing Competes at Penn State Invitational

Jamesson Has Impressive Day for the Violets

Jamesson had an outstanding day in State College.
The New York University men's fencing team recorded one victory against stiff competition at the Penn State Invitational on Saturday, December 3, in State College, PA.

NYU was pitted against some of the nation's top NCAA Division I fencing programs, including host Penn State University,  Harvard University and Princeton University.

The Violets' win was recorded against Vassar College, with NYU prevailing 17-10.

NYU was defeated by Penn State (23-4), Princeton (21-6), Harvard (21-6), the University of North Carolina (17-10), and Sacred Heart University (17-10).

"We battled throughout the day and had some strong individual performances," said NYU assistant coach Lauren Willock

Indeed, it was a strong performance by junior captain Philip Jamesson. He won 12 bouts and dropped only three. Jamesson posted perfect 3-0 records against North Carolina, Princeton and Vassar.

Behind Jamesson's success, the foil team posted victories against every opponent but Penn State. He is now 15-3 overall this season.

"It's always good to face stiff competition," Willock added. "This experience should certainly help us all down the road."

That experience will be tested next on January 22, when the squad hosts another oust anding group of opponents at the annual NYU Invitational at the Coles Sports Center.
