The New York University men's fencing team defeated Drew University in the home opener of the 2011-12 season on Thursday, November 10, at the Jerome Coles Sports Center.
The Violets doubled-up Drew 18-9, winning both epee and foil, while falling short in sabre.
In epee, the men shined winning 8-1. Both
Justin Powell and
Ricky Woodward compiled 3-0 records.
Enrique Cavazos also went unbeaten going 2-0.
In foil, the Violets were equally as impressive, winning 7-2. Co captain
Phil Jamesson and
Andrew Ark both went undefeated.
In sabre, the men lost 6-3. All three victories came from co captain

“This was a tricky match-up for us today,” said NYU head coach
Steve Mormando. “They have a very good team, especially in sabre, and the fact that we were able to win nine bouts shows great promise.”
