Men's Volleyball Splits at Golden Dome

Violets Rebound to Sweep D'Youville After Falling to Host Rutgers-Newark

The New York University men's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of the 2011 Golden Dome Classic hosted by Rutgers-Newark University on Saturday, January 29, in Newark, NJ.

The Violets (2-2), currently ranked #7 in the AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Top 15 Poll, opened the weekend by falling to the host Scarlet Raiders (3-0) in straight sets 25-18, 25-23, 25-16.

Leading the offense for NYU was Taylor Fauntleroy, who led the team with 11 kills while also putting up four digs.

On defense, Dylan Ramey put up a team-best six digs.

For the Scarlet Raiders, Austin Papas led all players with 14 kills, while Zack Chambers contributed eight digs to the winning effort.

In the second match of the day, the Violets rebounded from the loss to sweep the D'Youville College Spartans 25-20, 25-23, 25-18.

On offense, Fauntleroy once again led the team by putting down 16 kills. He also contributed a team-best eight digs along with two service aces.

Pat Dodd also put together a strong offensive effort, putting down nine kills while hitting a team-best .368.

On defense, Jay Hayes also put up a team-leading eight digs while playing in the final two sets of the match.

For the Spartans, Jeremy Sajdak put down seven kills, while Danny Gittens added eight digs.

The Violets return to action tomorrow when they participate in the second day of the Golden Dome Classic.  NYU will take on #5 Rivier College at 1:00 pm followed by #15 Baruch College at 3:00 pm.
