TCNJ Dual Meet Results
The New York University men's swimming & diving team finished behind The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) at the TCNJ dual meet held on Saturday, January 22, in Ewing, NJ. The Violets finished with 113 points, while TCNJ, a top-ten team, scored 177 points.
“I think overall we swam fairly well,” said head coach
Bob Sorensen. “I would have liked to have seen a few faster times, but overall we swam as I would have expected us to swim at this point in the season.”
NYU was led by
Charlie Wu, who placed second in all three of his individual events: the 100 backstroke (54.71), the 200 backstroke (1:58.83) and the 200 individual medley (2:02.92).
Team co-captains
Bryson Naylor and
Andy King also performed well. Naylor took second in both the 100 freestyle (50.29) and the 500 freestyle (4:53.48). He also took third in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.81).
King took second in the 200 breaststroke (2:23.57) and third in the 200 IM (2:07.03), behind Wu.
Other top Violets included Danny Isaacson and
James Bedell. Isaacson placed second in the 200 butterfly (2:03.04) and third in the 500 freestyle (5:08.62), while Bedell took second in both the 50 freestyle (22.50) and the 100 butterfly (54.94).
The diving team had an excellent day, led by
Max Norris, who placed second in both the one-meter and three-meter dives. Both his score of 307.13 points in the one-meter dive and 307.43 points in the three-meter dive were NCAA Division III National Championship qualifying scores.
Ryan Drumm placed third in both the one- and three-meter dives. He scored a personal best of 232.95 points in the one-meter dive and 239.48 points in the three-meter dive.
“It was really a spectacular day for NYU diving,” said diving coach
Scott Donie. “We had some career-best and season-best scores today.
Max Norris has really strengthened his position to go to nationals.”
The Violets return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 29, when they host Vassar College at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan. Competition begins at 1:00 pm.
