Men's Volleyball Falls in Three to Rutgers-Newark

Violets Fall to 0-4 in the EIVA Hay Division

The New York University men's volleyball team fell to Division I rival Rutgers-Newark University in straight sets on Tuesday, March 9, at the Golden Dome in Newark, NJ.

The Violets (2-10, 0-4 EIVA Hay), currently ranked 15th in the AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Top 15 Poll but suffering from multiple team injuries, could not stand up to the powerful Scarlet Raiders' (6-9, 5-0 EIVA Hay) presence at the net, allowing them to hit .416 and put back 10.5 blocks as NYU fell 3-0 (30-18, 30-22, 30-21).

Leading the Violets on offense was captain Fran Hodgson.   The junior tallied a team-high seven kills along with two blocks and a service ace for a team-best 9.5 points.

Also putting down seven kills was senior captain Michael Ferragonio who also added two blocks and two digs.

On defense, senior captain Ori Oren tallied a team-high five digs in two sets.

For the Scarlet Raiders, Marcin Midura led all players on both offense and defense with 12 kills and six digs.

The Violets return to action next Friday and Saturday, March 19-20, when they take part in the Wisconsin Invitational.  NYU will play four matches in two days including match-ups with 11th-ranked Carthage College and 12th-ranked Milwaukee School of Engineering.
