Men's Swimming & Diving Team Splits at Rochester Invitational

Violets Top Rochester, Fall to Case Western Reserve

The NYU men's swimming & diving split at the University of Rochester Invitational held on October 29-30, at the Speegel-Wilbraham Aquatic Center in Rochester, NY. The Violets beat host Rochester 195-165, but fell to Case Western Reserve University 205-154.

Bryson Naylor, one of the team's captains, led the Violets on Saturday, winning both the 100 and the 200 breaststroke, as well as the 400 individual medley (IM). He finished the 100 in 1:01.65, the 200 in 2:13.45 and the 400 IM in 4:22.78. Naylor also anchored the 400 free relay team, which took second with a time of 3:19.10. On Friday, he won the 1,650 free with a time of 17:12.60.

Charlie Wu and Cole Talbott also turned in strong performances on Saturday. Wu won the 200 backstroke in 1:59.28. He placed second in the 200 IM on Friday, clocking 2:01.27. Talbott, who placed second in the 1,650 (17:20.92) on Friday, won the 500 freestyle in 4:57.44 and took third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:04.42.

Other top Violets included Danny Isaacson, who placed third in the 500 freestyle in 5:00.57, and Andy King, another captain, who took third it the 200 IM in 2:02.53 on Friday.

“Overall I'm very happy with the way our team swam,” said head coach Bob Sorensen. “For our second meet of the season we're doing well. We're looking forward to a week off before our next meet.”

The diving team also continued its success on Saturday. Max Norris won the one-meter dive, scoring 285.30, while Jarrod Brodsky placed second with a score of 258.35. Ryan Drumm placed third in the three-meter dive with 224 points on Friday.

The Violets return to the pool on November 13, when they host the United States Coast Guard Academy and Wheaton College at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan. The meet begins at 1 pm.
