The New York University fencing squad rebounded after going 3-4 at the Eric Sollee Invitational on Saturday with a victory over Tufts University in a dual meet Sunday, Jan. 31, in Medford, MA.
It was a team effort for the Violets, who defeated Tufts by a wide margin of 20-7. The victory improves NYU's record to 8-14 as the team enters the home stretch of the season.
“They had some trouble in the middle bouts yesterday but did a good job of bouncing back against Tufts,” said assistant fencing coach Lauren Willock. “This win gives us some confidence heading into our final matches of the regular season.”
NYU was carried by its foil team, which won 9-0. Junior Amanda Rysling, senior Zoe Evans and sophomore Rebecca Baird-Remba all went 3-0 for the Violets.
The sabre team also picked up a commanding 7-2 win, with senior Alyxandra Mattison and sophomore Lisa Verzino going 3-0. For the epee team, freshman Christiana Lai led the way by going 2-1.
The Violets will be back in action Feb. 3, as they take on Columbia University, Vassar College and Sacred Heart University in a quad-meet hosted by Columbia.
