Tumay's First Two Goals Help Violets Stifle Farmingdale State, 4-0

Serra Tumay's first two collegiate goals highlighted NYU's latest win.

Box Score

Serra Tumay tallied her first two collegiate goals and New York University scored a season-high four first-half tallies en route to a 4-0 victory over Farmingdale State College in non-conference women's soccer action Sunday afternoon at the College of Staten Island Soccer Complex in Staten Island, NY.

Emily Jenkinson contributed a first-half goal and set up Tumay's first score as a Violet off a perfectly placed corner kick for NYU (7-2) in its final tune-up before beginning University Athletic Association (UAA) play Saturday at the University of Rochester.

In the opening stanza, the Violets put eight of their nine shots on frame, finally scoring when a Filiz Kipcakli shot from 15 yards out crossed the goal line for her team-best fourth goal at 19:53. Just 2:35 later, Jenkinson collected a clear from a Farmingdale State (6-3-3) defender and launched a right-footed line drive into the top right corner of the twine to make it 2-0.

Tumay then got into the act. First, she headed home Jenkinson's corner kick at 37:25, then drove a hurried corner kick of her own off the goalkeeper's hands with two seconds remaining in the opening half.

Meanwhile, Rachael Ross (5-2-0) made four first-half saves, including an impressive leaping stop of a Brittany Williams attempt 7:30 into the action to thwart the Rams' best chance. Alex Walters stopped two shots over the final 45 minutes.

Stacey Rao stopped five shots for Farmingdale State, which forged a 10-10 tie in shots.  NYU owned a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
