Hindered by 43 attack errors, the New York University men's volleyball team fell to the Stevens Institute of Technology for the third time this season on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the Canavan Arena in Hoboken, NJ.
Although the Violets (3-12), currently ranked #10 in the Bison/AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Top 15 Poll, rallied for an impressive 38-36 win in set two, the team was outmatched overall by the third-ranked Ducks (15-3), falling 3-1 (30-19, 36-38, 30-28, 30-16).
Overall, although the Violets held a 64-62 edge in kills, Stevens held a 23-12 blocking advantage and out-dug NYU 40-39.
On offense for NYU, senior co-captain Devin Zolnowski tallied a match-high 23 kills and added nine digs.
Fellow senior co-captain Ilan Goldstein tallied his second consecutive double-double in a row, putting up 59 assists while adding a match-high 14 digs.
Sophomore Fran Hodgson was also in double-digits on offense, putting down 15 kills while also putting back four blocks.
For the Ducks, senior Andrew Cranford put down 20 kills and hit .607, while senior Michael Bertucci put up 11 digs.
The Violets return to action this Saturday, Feb. 28, when they travel to take on Division III rival and second-ranked Juniata College. First serve is set for 4:00 pm.
