Violets Starting UAA Play on Road

NYU Will Look to Repeat 2008 Magic Against Rochester

Filiz Kipcakli has scored four game-winning goals.

The New York University women's soccer team will look for its third consecutive winning start to its University Athletic Association (UAA) schedule when it travels to the University of Rochester for a 7:30 p.m. game Saturday.

Coming off Sunday's 4-0 victory over Farmingdale State College that represented a season best in goals scored, the Violets (7-2) will look to continue their winning ways in UAA openers after defeating Case Western Reserve University the previous two seasons.

NYU started 2-0 in Association play last season after defeating Rochester, 2-1, in double overtime, as Filiz Kipcakli buried a shot from 25 yards out 46 seconds into the second extra session for her second goal of the game.  It was the Violets' third victory in 13 tries against the Yellowjackets, with all three wins coming by one-goal margins.

Kipcakli (4-1-9) netted her fourth game-winning goal of the season Sunday against Farmingdale State, beginning an onslaught that saw the Violets produce all of their offense during the first 45 minutes.  Erica Jones (2-3-7) is NYU's second-leading scorer.  Defensively, center backs Katie Gaston and Cait Kilpatrick have solidifed a defense that has recorded a 0.88 goals against average.

Rochester (6-1-2) is ranked #24 in the D3Soccer.com and has won two straight games thanks in part to the play of Ellen Coleman (4-4-12) and Jessica Smith (4-0-8), as well as the goalkeeping of Celeste Hornbach (5-1-1, 0.40 GAA), the UAA leader in goals against average.
