Box Score
A score off a corner kick 35 seconds into the second overtime proved the difference as the New York University women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Carnegie Mellon University in University Athletic Association (UAA) action Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh.
In an otherwise evenly played contest, the Tartans (6-5-2, 1-1-2 UAA) netted the golden goal when Katie Davis headed home Emily Overstreet's corner kick at 100:35 to hand the Violets (8-5-1, 0-3-1 UAA) a heartbreaking road loss.
NYU's two best chances came courtesy of juniors Rebecca Assing and Filiz Kipcakli. Assing struck a low, curling line drive that Carnegie Mellon's Anya Rosen (7 saves) punched away with a lunging save at 26:04, while Kipcakli hit the crossbar at 57:06.
NYU got off two corner kicks in the first extra period, but Carnegie Mellon marched into the Violets' final third almost immediately in the second overtime and scored the game's lone goal.
Carnegie Mellon owned a 14-13 edge on shots, while NYU held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Rachael Ross started the game and made four saves in the first half for the Violets. Alex Walters did not make a save in 55:35.
NYU returns to action next Sunday, Oct. 25, when it travels to SUNY Purchase for a 2 p.m. tilt.
