Women's Fencing Defeats Tufts University

Junior Sophie Ciaravino went 3-0 to help the sabre team to a 7-2 win.

The New York University women's fencing team traveled to Medford, MA, on Saturday, Jan. 31, to face off against Tufts University in its 14th duel meet of the season.

With strong performances by the Violet sabre and foil teams, NYU came away with a close 15-12 victory over the Jumbos, raising its season record to 6-8.

In foil, the women went 7-2, including a 3-0 mark by sophomore Sophie Ciaravino, who pushed her personal record to 18-14 on the season.

The sabre team also came away with a 7-2 victory, with junior co-captain Alyxandra Mattison going 3-0. Mattison now leads the sabre team in wins with a record of 21-14.

In epee, the Violets lost 8-1, with their lone win coming from junior co-captain Eliza Friar.

The women's fencing team will be back in action tomorrow, Feb. 1, at the MIT Invitational in Cambridge, MA.
