Sophomore Laura Palumbo assisted on two of the New York University women's soccer team's three goals, as the Violets blanked Farmingdale State College, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Manhattan College's Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

NYU (7-2-0) got goals from three different players and won its seventh straight contest, giving the squad momentum heading into its University Athletic Association (UAA) opener Saturday, Oct. 4, at Case Western Reserve University.

"I'm happy with the effort because no matter who was on the field, the level remained high," NYU head coach Werner T. Dasbach said.  "The desire to go forward was good."

The Violets attacked from the start, getting on the board 10:35 into the game when sophomore Rebecca Assing headed home a free kick from freshman Erica Jones off a restart for her third goal of the season.  Sophomore Lucy Dolly Caires' third tally of 2008 made it 2-0 at 27:40, as she took a feed from Palumbo and scorched a shot into the top left corner of the net from 20 yards out.

Sophomore Filiz Kipcakli netted her team-high-tying fifth goal of the season to cap the scoring at 47:27, tapping home a cross from Palumbo near the goal mouth.

Overall, the Violets owned big advantages in shots (28-3) and corner kicks (11-2), earning their fifth shutout of the season as sophomore Alex Walters (7-1-0) put aside one shot for her fourth clean sheet this fall.

Amanda Maass made 11 saves in the loss for Farmingdale State (2-8-0).

NYU is off until Saturday, when it ventures to Cleveland to oppose Case Western at 5 p.m.
