Pillemer Sets All-Time Scoring Mark in Setback

Senior Scores Lone Goal in 2-1 Loss to UAA Rival Brandeis

Box Score

Senior Sarah Pillemer became the all-time scoring leader in New York University women's soccer history in the Violets' 2-1 loss to University Athletic Association (UAA) rival Brandeis University on Saturday afternoon at Manhattan College's Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

Pillemer's tally at 87:54 gave her 61 career points, surpassing the previous mark of 59 established by Lauren Henkel (2000-03).  Meanwhile, the senior - honored along with classmates Megan Murray and Alyssa Simon on Senior Day - netted her 25th goal, equaling the all-time mark set by both Henkel and Kristen Puttkamer (1996-99).

"I'm really happy that I set the record in my last home game," Pillemer said.  "I really wanted to score today, but I'm sad that we lost."

Brandeis (10-7-2, 3-3-1 UAA) capitalized upon an early flurry to take a 1-0 lead.  Mimi Theodore put a shot on goal that NYU (10-8-0, 2-5-0 UAA) sophomore Katie Gaston cleared off the endline.  However, the Judges' Kaitlin Oldfield collected the rebound and headed it home at 5:53.

Brandeis entered intermission ahead 2-0 as Ellie Einhorn chipped home a shot from 25 yards out.

Pillemer cut the Violets deficit in half with 2:06 remaining, going endline and burying her eighth goal of the season into the top left corner of the twine.

"She deserves the record," NYU head coach Werner T. Dasbach said.  "Every year, in each of her four years, her point total has increased.  It's a testament to her improvement as a player.  She's a special player."

Hillary Rosenzweig made four saves in the victory for Brandeis.  Alex Walters also put aside four shots for NYU.

NYU owned a 12-11 edge on shots and an 8-3 advantage on corner kicks.

The Violets will now await word of a potential Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Metro Tournament invitation when the field is announced Monday.  NYU qualified last season.
