Women's Soccer Loses to Carnegie Mellon

The disappointed Violets lost 1-0.
Box Score

The New York University women's soccer team fell to Carnegie Mellon University in a University Athletic Association (UAA) game by a 1-0 margin at Gaelic Park at Manhattan College on Friday.

After an evenly contested game in the first half, the two teams went into intermission deadlocked at 0-0. NYU (10-6-0, 2-3-0 UAA) took three shots, one more than the Tartans. Each goalie recorded one save.

Two minutes into the second half, the Violets fell into a little bad luck. Attempting to clear the ball after a free kick, a Violet defender deflected the ball over sophomore goalkeeper Alex Walters' outstretched arms for an own goal. Carnegie Mellon only needed the one goal to seal the victory, improving its record to 8-5-2 with a 2-3-0 mark in the UAA.

Overall, Carnegie had nine total shots and took four corner kicks. NYU had seven shots and took 10 corner kicks, but was unable to convert any of those chances. Walters (10-5-0) made two saves, while Anya Rosen (7-4-2) had three for the Tartans.

The Violets look to salvage a split in UAA play this weekend when they face the Emory University Eagles at 11:00 a.m. at the College of Staten Island on Sunday.
