Pillemer Moves Into Tie for All-Time Scoring Lead

Sarah Pillemer helped the Violets net the equalizing goal in the 61st minute.

In its quest to knock off a second consecutive top-20 team, New York University dropped a 2-1 decision to Washington University in University Athletic Association (UAA) women's soccer game Friday night in St. Louis.

The loss denied the Violets (9-4-0, 2-1-0 UAA) a chance to claim first place in the UAA outright, while the Bears (10-2-1, 3-0-0 UAA) moved atop the Association standings.

Washington took a 1-0 lead into intermission after Jenny Philip one-timed a cross from Emma Brown at 35:45, but it was an even first 45 minutes of play as both teams fired off three shots.

Senior Sarah Pillemer tied for the all-time lead in scoring by setting up NYU's goal at 60:59.  The two-time Second Team All-UAA selection went endline, getting a ball across to sophomore Laura Palumbo that she buried home for her fourth goal of the season.  Pillemer now has 59 career points.

However, the Bears found the back of the net with the game-winner at 77:31, as Brown sent a through ball to Caitlin Malone, who deposited a shot into the far corner of the goal to snap a 1-1 tie.

Sophomore Alex Walters made five saves for the Violets, while Amanda Boe notched three stops for Washington.

Overall, the Bears owned a 12-7 edge on shots and a 5-3 edge on corner kicks.

NYU will attempt to salvage a split on its UAA Midwestern swing Sunday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m. (CST) when it travels to the University of Chicago.
