NYU Basketball Earns MBWA Awards

Peper Named Player of the Year, Barber Coach of the Year

The New York University mens and women's basketball teams received multiple Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) honors for the 2025-26 season.  

Caroline Peper was named All-Met Division III women's college basketball Player of the Year and First Team All-Met.

The lone senior had a stellar season, setting a program record by making 112 3-point shots, tying an NYU single-game scoring record with 41 points on November 30, 2025, against USMMA, and helping to bring the Violets to their third consecutive Final Four. Peper led NYU with 18.6 points per game and finished her season with 100 assists.

Peper is ninth overall on the Violets' all-time scoring list with 1,426 points across four seasons.

The University Athletic Association (UAA) Player of the Year, Peper was also named WBCA National Player of the Year. and All-American.

Junior Brooke Batchelor also collected All-Met First Team recognition, starting every game for the Violets and averaging 28.6 minuted per game. Batchelor averaged 13.4 ppg and 5.9 rebounds, while leading the team with 80 steals.

Sophomore Zahra Alexander was named All-Met Second Team while sophomore Yasmene Clark received All-Met Third Team.

Alexander was clutch off the bench for the Violets, appearing in all 30 games while averaging 12.0 ppg in 22.3 minutes. Clark started 21 of the 30 games, averaging 21.2 minutes and leading the team in rebounds with 10.6 per game.

Head Coach Meg Barber was selected Coach of the Year for a fifth consecutive season and sixth time overall. She led the team to a fifth consecutive UAA title with an undefeated 14-0 regular season league record.

Barber has posted a 179-22 (.891) record at NYU, and helped lead the team to 91 consecutive wins. The record set the longest winning streak in Division III history (women or men) and the second-longest in all of NCAA basketball at any level or gender, exceeded only by the UConn women with 111 straight wins. Barber has received countless awards for her work, including NCAA Division III Coach of the Year and UAA Coach of the Year.  

On the men's side three Violets were recognized. 

Junior Carnegie Johnson was named to the All-Met Second Team following his impressive first season with NYU. In 25 appearances, he played the second most minutes on the team (32.6) and scored 15.2 ppg. Johnson also led the team in assists with 109. 

Graduate student Luke Kolaja got the nod for the All-Met Third Team, while fellow graduate student Darren Rubin received Honorable Mention. 

Kolaja played 24.5 mpg for the Violets, averaging 13.9 ppg, 5.4 rpg, and recording a team-high 23 blocks. Rubin appeared in all 27 games averaging 15.0 ppg and leading in FG made with 150. 

The 2025-26 All-Met Teams will be honored at the 93rd MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner on Thursday, April 23, at the Sleepy Hollow Hotel & Conference Center in Tarrytown, NY. The Haggerty dinner is the longest-running, media-managed college basketball awards program in the United States.
