The New York University men's tennis team defeated the University of Rochester 6–1 on Saturday, March 28, in Ithaca, NY.
In doubles play, the Violets swept all three matches to secure the doubles point.
The No. 1 pairing of Bryan Hui and Niklas von Hellens earned a 6–1 victory, while the No. 2 duo of Jeh-Lei Fan and Shido Ito secured a 6–2 victory. At No. 3 Boris Slesarev and Louis Frowein won with a 6–1 score.
In singles play, NYU won five of six matches.
Hui won 6–4, 6–2 at the No. 2 spot, and Frowein followed with a 6–3, 6–2 win at No. 3. At No. 4, Ito secured a 6–2, 2–6, 7–5 win, while Fan posted a 6–3, 6–7, 10–6 tiebreak victory at No. 5. At No. 6 Slesarev, posted a 6–1, 6–1 victory.
"Our guys were ready for their first conference match," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "We got off to a quick start and dominated the doubles. Rochester didn't go away, but Louis and Bryan played really well to stake us to a 3-0 lead and Shido closed it out for us in a tough match. Jeh-lei and Boris padded the score afterwards. Another tough match tomorrow so we will see how we bounce back."
The Violets return to action on Sunday, March 29, when they face Hobart College at 2:00 PM
in Geneva, NY.
