For the first time in 18 years, the New York University men's tennis team has won an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional doubles title.
Boren Zheng and
Bryan Hui secured the championship trophy after a dominant weekend run on Sunday, September 27, in Saratoga, NY.
Zheng and Hui claimed a commanding 6-4, 6-3 victory against Hamilton College opponents Alexei Katelevsky and Filip Moeller in the morning doubles final.
"Boren and Bryan played a great doubles match," said Head Coach
Dillon Pottish. "They complemented each other well on court."
The championship marks a historic milestone for the Violets' team: Zheng and Hui are the first men's doubles duo to bring home the ITA regional title since Patrick Whitner and Alex Stoler's win in 2008.
"Boren and Bryan definitely were the best doubles team in the tournament and proved it throughout the last few days," Pottish added.
The graduate-junior pair will represent NYU at the upcoming ITA Cup beginning on Thursday, October 15, in Rome, GA.
