The New York University men's tennis team opened play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championship on Friday, September 25. The no-team-scoring tournament is being held Friday through Monday in Saratoga, NY.

The Violets were successful in doubles play, advancing in two of the three doubles matches. The pair of Boren Zheng and Bryan Hui rolled to an 8-1 victory against a duo from Vassar College before winning 8-3 against St. Lawrence University. Kenn Wijesekara and Ignas Grusnius added to the momentum, also securing a win against the Saints. 

In singles play, Vincent Chang triumphed 6-2, 6-1 against an opponent from St. Lawrence before outlasting a player from Ithaca College 7-6, 6-4 to advance to the next round. Wijesekara also advanced with a swift 6-3, 6-2 victory against the Rochester Institute of Technology. 

"It was a good day overall for us," said Head Coach Dillon Pottish. "The guys competed and fought hard, and we have a lot to learn from. We are looking forward to tomorrow."

The Violets will return for Day 2 of the ITA Regionals on Saturday, September 26, in Saratoga, NY.
