The New York University men's tennis doubles pair of Boren Zheng and Bryan Hui opened play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup on Thursday, October 15, in Rome, GA.

Zheng and Hui, the first NYU doubles duo to advance to the ITA Cup in 18 years, faced the University of Mary Washington (UMW)'s Matt Scott and William Fromherz in a 5:30pm evening match-up.

The Violets' graduate-junior pair Zheng and Hui commanded the opening set against Scott and Fromherz, taking it 6-1. However, the Eagles fought back, claiming a 6-3 win in the second set to force a deciding tiebreak. After a tough back-and-forth battle, Zheng and Hui ultimately fell 10-8 in the tiebreaker.

"It was a really close match today that came down to a couple of points," said Head Coach Dillon Pottish. "We have a lot to improve on heading into the spring season for the whole team."

With the fall slate complete, the Violets will return to action in the spring on Friday, February 19, to take on host Swarthmore College on the road in Swarthmore, PA.
