NYU Golf Teams Conclude Play at Jekyll Island Invitational

Women Take First Place Behind Three Top-10 Finishes; Men Finish 29th

The New York University men's and women's golf teams concluded competition at the Jekyll Island Invitational on Sunday, hosted by Oglethorpe University.

The nationally third-ranked women's team finished in first place out of 24 teams with a three-round score of +34, placing three players among the top 10, including two tied for fifth individually. The Violets faced strong competition throughout the tournament, including No. 1-ranked Emory and No. 2-ranked Carnegie Mellon.

"We knew this was one of the biggest tournaments we play in all year and that we would be facing some of the top teams in the country, so it was outstanding to come out on top," said Head Coach Brad Johnson.

Inha Jun shot even par on Sunday to finish tied for fifth over the three rounds (+7), while Jiayi Fu also finished tied for fifth after carding a 75 in the final round.

Naomi Tan also recorded a strong performance, finishing 10th overall after shooting even par on Sunday.

Tiya Chowdary carded a 78, while Sonia Hao rounded out the lineup with an 84.

On the men's side, the Violets finished in 29th place out of 30 teams with a three-round score of +41.

Jomyuth Luangtana-anan led NYU with a three-round total of +1 (tied for 54th) after shooting a 75 on Sunday. Oscar Uribe followed with an even-par round on Sunday to finish at +2 overall (tied for 60th).

Qi (Steven) Liu shot an 83 on Sunday to finish at +16 overall, while Kai Nam Ryan Leung also shot an 83 and finished at +26 over the three days. Bryan Zhao carded a 79 on the final day and finished at +33 overall.

"I thought our top three played really well on the men's side," Johnson added. "Moving forward, I think we have an amazing team and believe we can compete for a spot the NCAA Championship."

The Violets also competed in individual events held alongside the team competition that did not count toward team scoring. NYU golfers placed first individually on both the men's and women's sides, as Tanmay Chandra shot 6-under to win the men's event, while Kelly Jing shot 1-under in the final round to clinch the women's title.

The men's team returns to action on April 11th at the Tim Brown Invitational, while the women will compete next at the Randolph-Macon Invitational on March 30th.
