The New York University men's tennis team fell 7–0 to Babson College on Saturday, February 28, in Babson Park, MA.
In doubles play, the Violets earned one victory but ultimately conceded the doubles point to Babson.
The lone NYU win came from the No. 1 pairing of Bryan Hui and Niklas von Hellens, who edged their opponents 7–6 in a tightly contested set. The No. 2 duo of Shido Ito and Jeh-Lei Fan, along with the No. 3 tandem of Boris Slesarev and Rahul Sundaresan, fell by identical 6–0 scores as Babson secured the early advantage.
In singles competition, NYU was unable to find its rhythm, dropping all matches as Babson clinched the team victory.
Von Hellens battled at the top spot before falling 6–3, 7–5, while the remaining Violets were unable to secure a win.
"Our guys fought hard," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "Nik and Bryan won a very tight match against the #3 doubles team in the nation. Unfortunately, Babson was the better team today. It's a good look at the level of competition we will see within the UAA and some of the other teams we play this season. Our guys know what they need to work on in order to compete at that level."
The Violets return to action Saturday, March 7, when they host Wellesley College in the Bronx, NY.
