The New York University swim team hosted its final home meet of the season on Saturday, February 21. The Violets held the NYU Winter Invitational as a "last chance" meet with swimmers from Adelphi University, Baruch College, the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), the University of Bridgeport, and Pace University.
The morning session consisted of timed finals and closed the day with time trails, all with no team scoring.
Bryan Manheimer led the way for the Violets in the 50 freestyle, clocking in at 21.40.
Kyle Bitz dropped one second from his seed time, finishing just behind in 22.17.
The Violets had a solo swim in the women's 400 individual medley;
Sophie Cox clocked in at 4:34.64.
Kenny Meyer took second in the men's heat, finishing in 4:13.18.
NYU's
Andrea Wu (56.75) and
Alia Saba (58.34) took first and second in the 100 butterfly.
Leo Han took first in the men's race with a 47.72 time.
The home team scored the top four spots in the 100 breaststroke, led by
Victor Derani (54.98) and
Conner Dean (56.09).
Ainsley Taylor swam the 100 backstroke, finishing in 1:00.25.
Adam Mekrami shaved three seconds off his entry time in the men's heat, finishing in 52.97.
In the 200 breaststroke, Kate Steinmeier (2:20.86) and
Matthew King (2:06.36) topped the men's and women's heats.
The morning timed finals session closed out with the mile swim.
Bethany Spangler (17:15.92) and
Evan Jue (15:40.50) led the way for the Violets.
Han opened the evening session of the time trials with a win in the 50 freestyle, clocking in 20.96.
Later on, Wu clocked in at 2:09.97 in the 200 butterfly.
The Violets now move to NCAA competition for the remainder of the season, beginning with the Regional Diving Championships (Feb. 27-28) before the Division III National Championships, held Mar. 18-22.
