The New York University men's swimming and diving team held its position in second place on the final day of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships.
NYU maintained the silver spot for the final three days of the four-day meet at the Myers-McLoraine Pool on the campus of the University of Chicago, finishing with 1626 points. Emery University won the 2026 UAA Championship with 1753.5 points.
"I'm really proud of how this team performed," said Swimming Head Coach
Trevor Miele. "They had a tremendous meet with a number of amazing individual performances and I am ready for them to head to NCAA's."
Adam Mekrami kicked off the final session of the meet by holding off the field for a second-place finish in the mile swim. His 15:36.38 time earned silver. Teammate
Evan Jue clocked in at 15:43.34 for fourth place.
In the 200 backstroke final,
Teddy Cross put down an NCAA "A cut" qualifying time of 1:42.74 to take first. He beat out teammate
Teddy McQuaid, who placed second in 1:45.92.
Pierce Downs etched a new NYU record in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 43.71 and in second place.
The Violets finished 2-3-4 in the 200 breaststroke final, led by
Victor Derani (1:57.96) in second place.
Conner Dean (1:58.14) and
Maksym Nechydyuk (1:58.50) took third and fourth places, respectively.
The men concluded the weekend with a third-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The Violets team of Downs, Cross,
Sean Li and
Greg Wehbe clocked in at 2:57.58.
NYU will round out the season hosting their Winter Swimming Invitational, Feb. 21, before competing in the NCAA Regional Diving Championships, Feb. 27-28, and the Division III Championships, Mar. 18-21.
