The New York University men's swimming and diving team completed the penultimate day of competition at the 2026 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, holding firm in second place after three days.
The UAA Championships are held at the Myers-McLoraine Pool on the campus of the University of Chicago.
NYU stands in second place after eight sessions of competition with 1159 points. Emory leads the field with 1272.5 points.
"The men swam well tonight, anchored by strong performances from
Teddy McQuaid and
Conner Dean," said Swimming Head Coach
Trevor Miele.
McQuaid opened the evening sessions with a third-place finish in the 100 butterfly final, finishing in 47.30.
Dean scored the first UAA win of his rookie campaign, winning the 400 individual medley final in 3:49.97.
Maksym Nechydyuk (3:50.93) made it a 1-2 Violet finish.
In the 200 freestyle final,
Pierce Downs set a new NYU record with a 1:37.01 time and finished second overall.
Sean Li (54.44) represented the Violets in the 100 breaststroke final, taking fourth overall.
McQuaid brought it home in the final individual race of Friday night, breaking a new UAA record and winning the 100 backstroke in 46.67 seconds.
Teddy Cross touched second in 47.08 seconds.
The Violets' "A" team in the 200 medley relay closed out the session with a first-place finish. McQuaid,
Sean Li, Cross and
Greg Wehbe clocked in at 1:26.62, a new UAA and NYU record.
Men's diving action wrapped up on Friday with the one-meter competition.
Nolan Jennings (404.85) and
Makai Harder (364.05) topped the consolation final to wrap up their meet.
"We dove well today but a few mistakes cost us," said Diving Head Coach
Todd Kolean. "It was nice to see Makai and Nolan come back and perform well in the consolation."
The meet concludes on Saturday, February 14, with the final sessions of the weekend. The conference championship will come down to: the mile, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and the 400 freestyle relay. Preliminary races begin at 11:00 a.m. EST, with the finals beginning at 7:00 p.m. EST.
