Men’s Swimming and Diving in Second after Day Two of UAA Championships

Team Sets Two New UAA Records

The New York University men's swimming and diving team closed out the second day of competition at the 2026 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships in second place.

The meet is being held February 11-14, at the Myers-McLoraine Pool on the campus of the University of Chicago.

NYU finished Thursday's evening session with 590 points, just behind Emory with 626.5 points.

"The team came out ready to race this morning and it really set us up for the finals tonight," said Swimming Head Coach Trevor Miele. "That's not an easy thing to do, so I'm really proud of them."

The Violets opened the final Thursday session with the team's first relay win of the meet, taking first in the 200 freestyle relay. NYU's "A" team (Pierce Downs, Teddy Cross, Stone Miller, Greg Wehbe) cracked a new UAA, NYU, and pool record with a 1:18.97 time.

Adam Mekrami was the Violets' top finisher in the 500 freestyle final, clocking in at 4:29.59 in sixth place.

In the men's 200 individual medley (IM) final, rookie Conner Dean held his own amongst a number of juniors in the field. Dean took second at 1:47.08, just 0.41 seconds off the winning pace.

"I was proud of Conner for his performance in the IM final, hanging with a strong field," added Miele.

Cross started his day by setting a new UAA and NYU record in the 50 freestyle prelims, setting the best time with a 19.75 swim. He took second place in the final with a 20.00 time. Wehbe (20.18) placed fourth.

"Teddy was super impressive this morning to set that record in a prelim," said Miele.

The men finished the day with a new program record in the 400 medley relay. NYU's "A" team (Cross, Sean Li, Teddy McQuaid, Pierce Downs) took second with a 3:11.90 time.

Competition rolls into the back half of the meet on Friday, with the 100 butterfly, 400 IM, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 200 medley relay, and one-meter diving finals.
