The New York University women's track and field team traveled to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island, NY, for its first indoor meet of 2026 on Friday, January 16.
The Violets logged two new program records and totaled seven top-10 individual finishes at the NYC Gotham Cup.
Rookie Alexa McMillian shined for NYU in her second collegiate meet. The freshman jumper set the new program record in the long jump, taking third with a best jump of 5.46m. She added to her day with a fourth-place finish (11.37m) in the triple jump competition.
A pair of NYU jumpers finished among the top-10 in the high jump, led by Areyanna McCarthy (1.50m) in seventh place. Amalia Hronides tied for ninth place, topping out at 1.45m.
On the track, Beverly Okyere led the way with a third-place finish in the 60m final (8.47). The Violets' Cindy Leonard took ninth with a 8.75 time. m
Sophomore Rina Kurihara set a program record of her own in the 1000m, taking fifth with a 2:55.21 pace. Gianna Dawson (3:01.65) and Katharine Frank (3:03.17) joined their teamate in the top-15, finishing in 12th and 13th places, respectively.
The Violets return to action on Friday, January 23, at the Dr. Sanders Scorcher, hosted by Columbia University at the Track and Field Center at The Armory.
