The
#2-ranked men's swimming and diving team cruised to a 177-80 win over Gettysburg College in a swim-only dual on Wednesday, January 14, in Gettysburg, PA. It was the team's first competition since early December.
"It was great to get back to racing," said Head Coach
Trevor Miele. "The group has been training hard over the past two weeks, and it was great to see them step up and put up some strong times."
The Violets recorded 12 first-place finishes out of 14 events and swept the top-three spots in five races.
Teddy Cross was a part of three first-place finishes, including two individual wins in the 100 (49.33) and 200-yard (1:50.05) backstrokes. He was also helped win the 200-yard medley relay (1:31.46) alongside
Sean Li,
Teddy McQuaid, and
Greg Wehbe.
Both
Pierce Downs and
Leo Han placed first in a pair of races. Downs earned the top finish in the 100 (45.88) and 200-yard (1:44.58) freestyles, while Han was victorious in the 100 (49.90) and 200-yard (1:53.29) butterflies.
"It was great to have Leo back and to add
Teddy Cross to the mix," Miele explained. "Leo dominated the 200 fly, and Teddy earned the win in the 100 back while dominating the 200 back."
Additionally, NYU saw individual wins by Li in the 100-yard breaststroke (56.95),
Maksym Nechydyuk in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:07.20), Wehbe in the 50-yard freestyle (21.28),
Blake Wang (4:42.47) in the 500-yard freestyle, and
Evan Jue (9:47.01) in the 1000-yard freestyle.
"There were a lot of really strong performances across the board on the guys' side," added Miele. "Pierce easily won the 100 and 200 free and Max dominated the 200 BR and 200 IM."
The Violets will return to the pool this week with a home meet against Johns Hopkins University on Saturday, January 17, at the Palladium Athletic Facility at 1:00pm. The dual will also serve as Senior Day.
