The New York University women's golf team got its first look at the venue for the 2026 NCAA National Championship, competing in the NCAA Preview on the Firecliff Course at Desert Willow Golf Club in Palm Desert, CA.
The two-round tournament, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, is being played Sep. 13-14.
After the first round, NYU sits in third place on the leader board with an even-par team score behind fellow University Athletic Association (UAA) teams Carnegie Mellon (-7) and Emory (-3).
The Violets played a cumulative +2 front nine, despite hitting four birdies, but turned things around over the back nine. 
The team recorded eight birdies on the back half of their collective rounds, led by 
Jiayi Fu with four.
Fu is tied for the individual lead after shooting 69 (-3) in the opening round.
After going bogey-free through the first 16 holes, 
Naomi Tan dropped from -3 to a -1 (71) with two bogeys to end her round. She enters the final day of competition tied for ninth place.
Kelly Jing, who logged the team's only eagle of the round on the 11th hole, is also at -1..
Inha Jun finished her opening round with a +5 (77) score, sitting in 53rd place individually.
The Violets and the rest of the field will conclude the tournament Sunday morning in California.
