The New York University men's tennis team delivered a dominant performance at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx, NY, securing a 6-1 victory over Hobart College on Sunday, March 9th.
The Violets set the tone early by winning two of three doubles matches. Boren Zheng and Philip Martin controlled the No. 1 doubles match, securing a 6-1 victory. Jingyuan Chen and Bryan Hui followed at No. 2, battling through a tight match to win 7-6 in a tiebreaker. At No. 3 doubles, Alex Lee and Zachary Freier fell in a close 6-4 match.
In singles play, NYU dominated across the lineup, winning five of six matches. Martin had one of the strongest performances of the day at No. 4, cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Shrey Arora followed with another decisive win at No. 5, 6-3, 6-2.
At the top of the lineup, Zheng put together a strong effort, taking a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles. Chen also delivered, earning a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 2. Hui had the most contested match of the day, but pulled out the No. 3 win in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.
"We came out with good energy in the doubles. Boren and Phil dominated at No. 1, and Bryan and Jing pulled out a tight tiebreaker," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "The team carried the momentum into the singles, and we were able to sweep the first five to secure the victory. It was a good win against a strong opponent."
The Violets improved to 4-1 on the season and will return to action on Saturday, March 15, when they travel to face The College of New Jersey. First serves are set for 12:00 PM.
