Men's Tennis Wins Sixth Straight

Violets Edge Brandeis 4-3

The New York University men's tennis team took on University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent Brandeis University at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx, NY, on Sunday, March 16.

Coming off a strong victory over The College of New Jersey on Saturday, the Violets looked to keep their momentum going and did just that with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Judges.

The Violets only secured one doubles' victory, recorded by Boren Zheng and Philip Martin (6-3) at No. 1.

However, in singles play, NYU claimed four of the six matches to seal the team win.

Zheng led the way at No. 1 singles, winning 6-3, 6-4. Martin followed with another strong performance, also taking his match 6-3, 6-4. Bryan Hui won the No. 4 match 6-2, 7-6.

At No. 3, Jingyuan Chen clinched the Violets' victory with a tight 6-4, 7-6 win.

"It was a very good win for the men. It went down to the wire as a lot of UAA matches go, and Jing was able to close it out for us," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "It was back and forth the whole day with Brandeis capturing the doubles point. Boren and Phil put us ahead 2-1 and Bryan evened us at 3-3, setting up Jing's clinching win. I'm happy for the guys, but we are not satisfied and will keep pushing."

The Violets have now won six straight matches, improving their record to 6-1. They will return to action next Saturday, March 22, when they travel to Saratoga Springs, NY, to take on Skidmore College. First serves are set for 10:00 AM.
