Violets Defeat Rochester 79-54

The New York Univerrsity men's basketball team posted a 79-54 victory over the University of Rochester in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest on Sunday, January 19, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.

The #4-ranked Violets (13-1, 2-1) rebounded from their only loss of the season on Friday and went wire-to-wire to defeat the Yellowjackets (6-8, 0-3).

"I was a bit concerned coming in because we hadn't really dealt with any adversity so far this season," said Head Coach Dave Klatsky. "I was hopeful that this group would be able to respond...and they did."

NYU scored the first eight points of the game and led by as many as nine in the first half.

Rochester pulled within two at 24-22, but the Violets went on to lead 34-29 at halftime.

NYU opened the second half on a 7-0 run and extended its lead to a game-high 30 points, 77-47, on a drive by Leyi Adebayo (his first points as a Violet) with just over two minutes remaining.

"It took about a half to figure it out, but I was proud that we played unselfishly and with great energy in the second half," Klatsky explained.

Tristan How led the Violets with 17 points and eight rebounds, adding three assists and a steal.

Brock Susko was the only other Violet to score in double-figures, finishing with 13 points to go with seven rebounds.

Hampton Sanders had a game-high seven assists.

The Violets return to action on Friday, Janaury 24, when they travel to Pittsburgh, PA, for another UAA contest. They will face host Carnegie Mellon University at 5:30pm.

"We haven't played on the road for a while, so we'll have to re-calibrate a bit," Klatsky added. "We know that every game in this league is tough. So, we'll just do what we can to prepare and bring our best to Pittsburgh."
