Men's Swimming Sweeps Friday Duals

Violets Down Ephs and Engineers

The #1-ranked New York University men's swimming and diving team returned to action in dominant fashion with wins over Williams College and the Massachusetts Insitute of Technology on Friday, January 17, in Williamstown, MA.

The Violets registered a 165.0-131.0 win over the Ephs and defeated the Engineers 206.0-88.0.

Maksym Nechydyuk led the way with first-place finishes in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, as well as the 400-yard IM.

"Max was incredible this weekend, taking on one of the toughest lineups you can swim against and winning the 100 and 200 breast as well as the 400 IM," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "His ability to push through such a grueling schedule and deliver dominant performances is nothing short of remarkable."

Teddy McQuaid added two individual wins of his own in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke.

"Teddy had a phenomenal meet, winning both the 100 and 200 back," offered Miele. "He's been consistent all season, and his ability to step up in big moments is a huge asset for our team."

Evan Jue claimed first place in both the 500- and 1650-yard freestyle.

"Evan's wins in the 500 and the mile were outstanding, but his come-from-behind victory in the 500 was one of the most exciting races of the meet," said Miele. "He showed incredible determination and grit, which exemplifies the spirit of this team."

NYU also won the 400-yard medley relay with a team of Jaeden-Hans Yburan, Youngsoo Ahn-Song, Matthew Wang, and Ajay Watanakun, and registered a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a team of Watanakun, Greg Wehbe, Stone Miller, and Pierce Downs

In the diving portion of the meet, William Hopkins placed third in both the one- and three-meter dives.

"The men put together an absolutely dominant performance against two nationally ranked programs in Williams and MIT," said Miele. "To swim this well, especially coming off an intense training trip, is a testament to their resilience and focus. With another meet tomorrow against Gettysburg, I'm proud of how they're handling this demanding stretch and continuing to compete at such a high level."

In a short turnaround, the Violets return home to host Gettysburg at the Palladium tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Manhattan.
