The New York University men's tennis team recorded a 5-4 victory over fellow University Athletic Association (UAA) member Brandeis University on Saturday, April 6, in Waltham, MA.
The Violets took two of the three doubles matches with
Boren Zheng and
Alexander Lee triumphing over their #2 opponents 8-6, and Brandeis forfeiting the #3 matchup due to not having a sufficient amount of players.
NYU picked up another win by forfeit at #6 singles, but Brandeis went ahead 4-3 by taking three consecutive matches.
However,
Zachary Freier tied the match after winning the #5 singles contest 6-4, 6-4. It then came down to the #3 match, where
Rumaish Khastgir clinched it for the Violets with a thrilling three-set victory (4-6, 6-3, 6-4).
"A typical UAA match and it was a battle to the end," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "This is the level of competition we expect at our conference championship in a few weeks. We are looking for a quick turnaround for another tough match tomorrow."
NYU will be back in action tomorrow, April 7, to face Stevens Institute of Technology at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx, NY.
