Members of the New York University men's and women's diving teams competed at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships on Friday and Saturday, March 1-2, at Colby College in Waterville, ME.
The women's 1-meter dive and the men's 3-meter dive were held on Friday, while the women's 3m and men's 1m took place on Saturday.
A pair of seventh-place finishes highlighted the Violets' performances on Friday.
Meera Kasturi (399.90) and
Sahil Das (436.80) were NYU's women's and men's team leaders, respectively. The women's team also captured 17th-19th place, with
Maya Williams (380.20),
Issara Schmidt (376.90) and
Claire Stephenson (373.55) taking those spots in the 31-person competition.
In addition to Das on the men's squad,
William Hopkins finished 11th (416.95),
Mitchell Mortenson was 13th (403.55) and
Makai Harder took 15th (382.85).
Then, on Saturday, Williams put together the top performance of the weekend, taking fourth place in the 1-meter dive with a score of 438.15.
"That was probably the best and closest I have ever seen in the women's three meter," said Head Diving Coach
Todd Kolean. "Maya was outstanding and qualified for the NCAA National Championships."
Kasturi also posted another top-10 finish, taking eighth place (434.25). Stephenson also competed and took 25th (357.00).
For the men, Hopkins placed 10th (412.20), Das was 13th (401.25), Mortenson took 15th (389.45), and Harder finished 19th (366.55).
"We dove well across the board both days," Kolean added. "This is easily the toughest region in the nation."
The 2023-24 season is now complete for the NYU diving teams other than Williams, who will compete at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving National Championships later this month.
