The New York University men's swimming and diving team had an outstanding performance on Saturday, December 7, securing dominant wins over both #11 nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and #19 nationally-ranked The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) in Ewing, NJ.
The Violets, ranked #4 in the nation, won 9 of the 16 events, besting host TCNJ by a score of 180.50-113.50 and JHU by a 157-104 margin.
Senior Connor Vincent led the charge for the Violets, winning both the 1000-yard freestyle (9:21.31) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:32.75).
Sophomores Pierce Downs and Matthew Wang had standout days, Downs claimed victories in the 200-yard freestyle (1:39.03) and 100-yard freestyle (45.01), while Wang added a win in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 49.14,
Maksym Nechydyuk dominated the breaststroke events, securing first place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:00.39) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:49.97).
"I was really proud of our guys today," praised Head Coach Trevor Miele. "They knew they were going against tough teams and rose to the challenge. It was a decisive and impressive win!"
The men's diving team also contributed to the team's success. Senior William Hopkins scored 265.70 points in the 1-meter and 286.65 points in the 3-meter while Freshman Nolan Jennings scored 238.45 points in 1-meter and 182.35 points in 3-meter.
"We saw a lot of great individual performances today," said Head Diving Coach Todd Kolean. "It's been a great team effort so far, and we're excited to keep building on this momentum as the season continues."
The Violets return to action for a diving-only competition tomorrow at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Go Red Diving Invitational in Troy, NY, beginning at 10:00am.
