The New York University women's golf team, ranked #20 in the latest
WGCA Rankings, fell to top-ranked Emory University in the opening day of competition at the University Athletic Association (UAA ) Championship on Saturday, March 11, at the Harbor Hills Country Club in Lady Lake, FL.
In match-play scoring, the top-ranked Eagles edged the Violets 3-2.
The competition came down to the very last hole of the very last match between Emory's Irene Wang and NYU's. Tied heading into the 18th hole, Wang was able to win the hole and clinch the match for Emory.
The teams had split the other four matches with NYU's
Irene Park (5&4) and
Nalinda Wanikpun (2-up) victorious in their matches, while
Tiya Chowdary and
Stephanie Su each came up short 3&2.
NYU came into the Championship seeded #4, while Emory was the top seed.
In the other match of the day, #3 Carnegie Mellon University defeated #2 Washington University in St. Louis 4-1.
NYU will face Washington in the third-place match tomorrow, while Emory and Carnegie Mellon will face-off for the UAA title.
