The New York University men's basketball team completed its two-game California trip with an 82-79 victory over the University of Redlands on Saturday, November 25, in Redlands, CA.
The
#9-ranked Violets (5-1) trailed 72-64 with less than five minutes to play, and by seven, 78-71, with just under three minutes remaining.
But, NYU went on a 9-1 run, taking the lead on
Zay Freeney's jumper with just 46 ticks left on the clock.
The Bulldogs' Kendrick Curry made a free throw to pull Redlands (4-1) within 80-79.
Spencer Freedman hit two clutch free throws with eight seconds remaining, and when Josh Himmel's three-point attempt to tie the game at the buzzer was off target, the Violets escaped with another victory.
NYU had led by as many as seven points, 25-18, in the first half, but the teams were deadlocked 41-41 at halftime.
Quinn Clark led the Violets with 18 points. Freeney had 17 and
Hampton Sanders added 13.
Freedman dished out a game-high 11 assists, while
Emmanuel Onuama pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
NYU also defeated the California Institute of Technology 78-69 on Wednesday in Pasadena, CA.
The Violets return to action next Saturday when they travel to New London, CT, to face Connecticut College. Tip-off is set for 2:00pm.
