The New York University men's tennis team wrapped up its fall season on Sunday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championship in Madison, NJ.
Jingyuan Chen and
Rumaish Khastgir represented the Violets on the third day of action. Both competed in the singles competition.
Khastgir faced Matt Michibata of The College of New Jersey in the quarterfinals. Though he fell 6-1, 6-3 to end his ITA play, he improved on his
2022 ITA Regional finish, where he played in the doubles matches of the 'B' draw.
Chen squared off against Sean Pesin of Hobart College in his quarterfinal match and triumphed 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 after Pesin retired in the third set. Chen advanced to the semifinals to face Michibata, who ultimately bested both Violets after defeating Chen 6-4, 6-3.
"It was a good showing for us at the tournament as a team," Head Coach
Horace Choy said. "Having two players in the quarters speaks to our depth. The last player we had advance as far as Jingyuan was in 2016. I'm excited for the spring season."
Closing the curtain on their fall season, the men's tennis team will next return to the courts on February 23 to open their spring line-up with a match against Haverford College in Haverford, PA.
