Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Leslie Scores Again as Violets Fall to Stevens

NYU drops 2-1 decision to the Ducks at home

New York University's men's soccer team hosted Stevens Institute of Technology for a non-conference match on Tuesday night at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY, falling 2-1 to the 11th-ranked Ducks.

Neither side had much success on the attack in the early portion of the game, with the first shot of the night coming in the 21st minute.

Stevens broke through in the 35th, however, with a long strike from Adam Silva that found the back of the net off an assist by Emerson Kuzemka. The 1-0 lead for the visitors held at halftime as Stevens outshot NYU 5-1 over the opening 45 minutes.

The Ducks doubled their lead eight minutes into the second half when Sean Ryan finished a header off a pass from Bruno Andino.

NYU responded just a minute later though, as reigning UAA Athlete of the Week Joe Leslie collected his team-leading fourth goal of the season with Daniel Comas-Sanchez picking up the assist.

Stevens regrouped and didn't give the Violets many more chances throughout the remainder of the half, holding on to improve to 5-0-1. NYU now sits at 2-2-1 on the young season.

"They made it very difficult for us centrally, they made it difficult for us on the outside," said head coach Kim Wyant. "They were good in transition, they got their two goals in transition. But, it was a good performance. We put in hard work, which we didn't on Saturday, so I was definitely pleased with the level of commitment and intensity."

Luca Mancuso made two saves for the Violets on the night while each side attempted four shots on goal. Stevens came in very physical, accumulating 18 fouls to NYU's six.

Next up for the Violets is a return to the road, heading to Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, September 17, for a 7:30 pm kickoff.
