The New York University track and field teams competed in the final scheduled event for NYU varsity sports in the 2021-22 academic year, sending a small group of Violets to the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference Outdoor Championships on Wednesday and Thursday, May 18-19, at Moravian University in Bethlehem, PA.
For the women
Isre'al Conerly ran in the 200 and 400-meter dashes. She finished 10th in the 200, crossing the finish line in 25.41 seconds. The junior placed one spot better in the 400, coming in ninth with a time of 57.51 seconds.
On the men's side, both
Brett Asay and
Jon Diaz raced in the 800. Asay came in 15th out of 33 finishers, clocking in at 1:55.92. Diaz was three spots behind him in 18th with a time of 1:56.18.
Oliver Fideler represented the men in the triple jump, placing 22nd with a 12.47-meter leap.
The Violets now await selections for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Diaz is the lone NYU student-athlete in the mix to qualify as he currently sits 25th in the country in the 800 after his strong race at the Princeton Elite Invitational (1:51.72) on May 14.
The top 20 individuals punch their ticket in the 800; if five of the runners ahead of him choose not to compete in the event, he'll be headed to nationals.
