New York University's men's and women's track and field teams commenced the outdoor season this weekend, competing at the Black & Gold Invitational hosted by the University of Central Florida in Orlando.
NYU was the only Division III school to participate in the event.
For the women,
Isre'al Conerly ran a season-best time in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 25.68 seconds for 64th place out of 108 finishers. Rookie
Summer Reid ran a personal best in the same event, finishing in 26.49 seconds (87th). Reid also competed in the 100-meter dash, placing 55th with a time of 12.98 seconds.
Kamila Sanusi logged a pair of personal records herself in both the 200-meter (27.10) and 400-meter (1:03.91).
Jaylyn Wagner posted a personal best in the 800-meter run, completing the race in 2:35.87.
More personal records were achieved in the women's 1500, with seniors
Athina Zodl (4:55.17) and
Gabrielle Stankosh (5:03.42) and rookie
Katherine Cheng (4:51.06) turning in strong performances.
Jessica Allen placed 12th in the 3K in her track debut, finishing in 11:30.61.
Throwers
Michelle Uvieghara and
Kiera Gainer represented NYU in the shot put and discus, both making their discus debut. Uvieghara recorded a 28.83-meter discus toss while Gainer posted a 27.67-meter result.
For the men,
Zion Glover made his 100-meter dash debut and placed 19th with a time of 11.12 seconds. He also ran in the 200, notching a personal-best finish of 22.56 seconds.
The Violets were well represented in the men's 3K as
Ryan Tobin took third (8:44.07),
Aidin Hasan fourth (8:52.53),
Jorge Rocha seventh (9:12.37),
Jon Diaz eighth (9:17.46),
James Vasile ninth (9:17.56),
Benjamin Haber 11th (9:28.20),
Coleman Ruiz 12th (9:35.20) and
Samuel Frank 13th (10:38.47). Rocha picked up a personal record in the event while Diaz, Vasile, Haber, Ruiz and Frank made their 3K debuts.
Dillon Bickerton achieved a personal record in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 22.38 seconds.
David Obwaya added two new events to his repertoire, competing in the 400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles for the first time in his career.
Thrower
Viraj Gulati made his collegiate debut, finishing 30th in discus with a 33.10-meter toss. Freshman
Rudra Amin also competed for the first time, placing 16th in the javelin throw (43.93m).
There was no team scoring at the Invitational.
NYU's track and field squads continue the outdoor season on Saturday, March 26, at the Oscar Moore Invitational hosted by Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ.
