The New York University Women's Basketball Team opened its Tip-Off Classic with an 86-36 victory over Thiel College on Saturday, November 20, at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility.
The Violets (3-0), who hadn't played since November 13, did not show any rust. NYU led 22-13 after the first quarter and then held the Tomcats (1-4) to only four points in the second in taking an insurmountable 45-17 lead at halftime.
NYU continued to increase its advantage until it settled on a game-high 50 at the buzzer.
"Our focus was on playing solid NYU Basketball," said Head Coach
Meg Barber.
Erica Miller (Alamo, CA/Carondelet) (15) and
Belle Pellecchia (Randolph, NJ/Rutgers Prepatory) (14) scored in double-digits to lead a balanced Violet attack.
Jenny Walker (Sausalito, CA/Redwood),
Jordan Janowski (Woodcliff Lake, NJ/Saddle River Day School) and
Meghan McLaughlin (Mount Laurel, NJ/Bishop Eustace Prep) each had eight points as 13 Violets made it into the scoring column.
"It felt great to have so many players contribute to the team tonight," Barber added.
Six Violets collected five rebounds, while Pellecchia led the way with four assists.
The Violets shot 52.1% (37-for-71) from the field, while holding the Tomcats to just 18.2% (10-for-55).
NYU returns to the court for its second game of the Tip-In Classic on Sunday. The Violets will play Claremont McKenna College at 3pm.
