The New York University Women's Basketball Team, prepping for the upcoming 2021-22 campaign, played an exhibition contest at Columbia University in upper Manhattan on Sunday, October 31.
The Violets open their regular NCAA Division III schedule on Saturday at Kean University, but stepped up for a competition against the Division I Lions.
As Head Coach
Meg Barber searches for the right combinations, she put 15 Violets on the floor in the exhibition, which Columbia won 89-55.
Eight players saw their first action for NYU.
"The biggest thrill of the day was finally seeing our players back on a court in an NYU uniform and the pride they took in representing NYU today," Barber said. "Collectively, we played with a lot of heart I was really proud of our effort. We have a lot of positives to take away from this."
NYU fell behind 24-14 after one quarter, but tightened things up in the second as Columbia only produced an 18-17 edge as the Violets trailed by only 11 at halftime. The Lions then pulled away in the third quarter due to NYU foul trouble.
"It was a fun environment to compete with a local Division 1 opponent and prepare for our non-conference slate," Barber added. "If we can grow from today's experience and with the opportunities ahead, this is going to be a really fun ride with a really great group of people."
