#17 Violets Defeat Southern Virginia 8-1

The New York University women's tennis team, ranked #17 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), defeated Southern Virginia University 8-1 on Saturday, March 7, at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx, NY.

With the Senior and Family Day victory, the Violets are undefeated at 4-0, while the Knights stand at 3-3.

The Violets opened the match by sweeping all three doubles match-ups. Anna Maria Buraya (Toronto, Canada/Bayview Glenn School) and Anastasiia Balyk (Odessa, Ukraine/Boca Prep International) won the #1 match 8-0, Coco Kulle (Vienna, Austria/Choate Rosemary Hall (CT)) and Judy Kam (Beijing, China/University) did the same at #2 and Rupa Ganesh (San Jose, CA/Lynbrook) and Kate Shaffer (Ann Arbor, MI/Greenhills School) won the #3 match 8-1.

NYU carried the momentum from doubles play into singles, winning five out of six matches.

"It was nice to get some playing time for others in the lineup today," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "Being Senior Day, it's a good team win and we look forward to a few tough matches next weekend."

The Violets return to action Friday, March 13, when they face The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ, at 1:00pm.
