The New York University men's soccer team closed out the weekend with a loss in the second overtime period to Hobart College on Saturday, August 31, in Geneva, NY.
The squads were tied at 1-1 when Hobart's Nate Cary slipped between two defenders and shot the game-winner into the left corner of the net at the 106:00 mark. He was assisted by Pete Critchlow.
The Statesmen are now 2-0 this season, while the Violets fall to 0-2.
Hobart's Binjo Emmanuel opened the scoring on a penalty kick just after the second half had begun (47:30).
Oliver Kleban (Denver, CO/Blind Brook), last season's University Athletic Association (UAA) Rookie of the Year, then knotted the score with NYU's first goal of the season. His tally was assisted by
Sergio Monton (Madrid, Spain/Fundacion Fomento) and
Matteo Russo (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) came from in close less than three minutes later (50:16).

The Violets had the edge statistically in the first half, taking nine shots to only three for the Statesmen. NYU forced Hobart goalkeeper Brian Balazar to make four saves, while the Violets'
Nick Vafiadis (Englewood, NJ/Bergen Catholic) was only tested once. The Violets took three corner kicks over the game's first 45 minutes, while the Statesmen only had one.
"We had an excellent team response from a disappointing (4-0) loss yesterday," said Head Coach
Kim Wyant. "We played much better and created lots of opportunities but we didn't capitalize."
The Violets are back in action on Saturday, September 7, when they face Drew University at 2:30pm, hosted by Rutgers University-Newark in Newark, NJ.
